Get Real: Bridges for Learning – Do we need them?
Panelists – Prof Tom Reeves, Maish Nichani and Prof Henk Schmidt
Some pertinent issues that will need to be addressed in the seminar theme ‘Buidling Bridges….Fostering Learning’ include:
- Bridges for Learning – Do we really need them?
- Be Immersed in virtual reality or get real - which is which?
- To blend or not to blend – Which way to go?
- Web 2.0: What is? – How to use it? – What’s next?
This is an interactive sessions between a panel of speakers and the seminar participants on the topics presented in the Plenary Sessions. The intent is to allow participants to be proactive in asking questions, providing feedback on the topics and sharing their own teaching experiences in the context of the seminar theme.

The Concurrent Track sessions will cover areas on content design, teaching methodologies & good practices, innovation in educational and instructional technology, online collaboration and learning support. There are five parallel tracks covering topics under the seminar tracks.

Summarising Together – Round up Session for the Seminar Tracks
28 Feb (Thurs) 1100 to 1230 hrs (SCE MMLab 3, LTs 11 to 13)
The seminar participants are to select one of the four tracks for the round up sessions. These parallel sessions provide the platform for the seminar participants to reflect, share and interact with the invited speakers on the specific issues and areas discussed throughout the seminar duration. The intent is for the participants to bring with them useful tips, good teaching ideas and greater awareness on educational innovations to better enhance the learning experience for their students.
The four (4) tracks in the Seminar include:
- Pedagogy, Methodologies and Good Practices
This Track looks into the appropriate pedagogy and review of learning design for effective teaching and learning. The topics covered explore those principles underpinning active learning which facilitate the development of a student-centric and life long learning environment
- Emerging Technologies for Teaching and Learning
This track seeks to explore how information and communication technologies can be infused into the pedagogical practices to extend and enrich students’ learning experience. It also explores the appropriate use of emerging web 2.0 technologies and learning support tools to better cater to learners’ needs.
- Learning Deaign and Support
This track explores ways to build conducive and engaging learning environments to better facilitate and enrich students’ learning experiences. It also explores the trend towards building learning communities and the need to keep pace with the continued emergence of technologies that will bridge constraints we normally associate with time and space.
- Content Design and Development
This track focuses on application of appropriate learning principles and the re-design of content learning environments. It also explores the strategic use of information and communication technology to provide appropriate learning activities, resources and support to enhance student engagement and learning experiences.
Pre and Post Seminar Workshops:
In conjunction with the Seminar Programme, we have organized pre and post-seminar workshops to provide for more in-depth discussion and hands-on practices for the topics covered on the seminar theme.
For the 2-day standard seminar participantion, you are entitled to select one complimentary workshop and as seats are limited, the registration for the workshops is on first-come-first-serve basis.
Any additional workshop(s) will be charged at S$150 for one-day workshop and S$80 for half-day workshop. Please forward your request to attend additional workshop(s) to Ms Sheryl Wong (lywong@ntu.edu.sg)
